About us
Dachkin is a small, family breeder of purebred long haired miniature dachshunds based on an acreage in the Central Coast (formerly Sydney).
The name “Dachkin” is derived from the words ‘dachshund’ (our favourite breed) and ‘kindred’ (meaning = one’s family and relations).
Our dogs are part of our family. They live in our home alongside our family of five, consisting of adults Dianne and Daniel, and our three kids (two teenage girls and our younger son).
We have owned a few different breeds of dogs over the years but we have found that the miniature dachshund best suits our family and lifestyle. Their love and loyalty for their human family is something special.
We are new to breeding miniature dachshunds but have a keen interest in learning as much as possible about the breed (in particular about the different characteristics and traits that our dogs have and how they can be passed on to their puppies). Our aim is to breed beautiful long haired miniature dachshunds that are physically and genetically healthy with amazing temperaments.
We currently own nine miniature long haired dachshunds - Daisy, Dudley, Stanley, Sadie, Audrey, Arnie, Nancy, Chloe and Holly.
All of our breeding dogs are DNA tested through Orivet to confirm their health status and ensure that they will never be PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy) positive. PRA is a form of blindness that is easily avoided through genetic testing and selective breeding.
We also test for other genetic diseases known to miniature dachshunds such as Mucopolysaccharidosis, Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL), Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) and Sarcoglycan Deficient Muscular Dystrophy (SDMD).
The health of our dogs is of the utmost importance to us and we work closely with our local vet to ensure that our dogs and are the healthiest and happiest they can be. They all follow a strict vaccination, flea, tick and worming regime.
Information about our upcoming litters can be found on our Puppies available page. Our waiting list / expression of interest form can be found here.
Each puppy will be sent to their new homes microchipped, vaccinated and wormed, well socialised and on the path to being toilet trained. You will also receive information on how to raise and care for you new puppy, their vaccination card and a Puppy Pack which will include a selection of treats and chews, toys, a blanket, a slow feed bowl and a pack of food to help with the transition to whatever you choose to feed them.

We are a verified breeder with RightPaw. Every breeder on RightPaw has agreed to the vet-approved RightPaw Code of Ethics, and passed an interview discussing: Breeding & Welfare, Health Practices, Home Environment, Documentation, Feeding and Physical Condition. During the interview RightPaw met each of our dogs and viewed our home environment in which we raise our dogs.

We have recently become member of the Master Dog Breeders and Associates (MDBA). The MDBA is a registration body for pedigree (papered purebred) dogs. MDBA breeders are encouraged to breed toward producing dogs which are good representatives of their breed, without moving toward selection of extremes and without compromise on health, temperament and a dog's quality of life.
The MDBA believes that getting the right people involved in breeding will lead to producing only the best dogs with their health and welfare at the core of any decisions, and that appropriate protocols and procedures are followed to ensure the best welfare of their dogs and the puppies they breed. Every breeder accepted by the MDBA must follow a set of rules and agree to their code of ethics, and has passed an induction.
More information about the MDBA can be found on their website.
